 The Societies Registration Act, 1860 is a legislation in British India which allows the registration of entities generally involved in the benefit of society – education, health, employment etc.

The British Indian Empire, with a wish to encourage such activities and to promote the formal organisation of groups of like minded people, incorporated the Act 21 of 1860, in other words, the Societies Registration Act, 1860 (21 of 1860), which came into force on 21 May 1860.

In post-independence India, the Act continues until today and being an Act of Parliament, comes under the Right to Information Act, wherein the government is legally responsible to give any information requested by any citizen of India with respect to any society.

In Bangladesh, Burma and Pakistan, all previously part of the British Raj, the Act also continues. In Brunei, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore, similar legislations for the registration of societies are also in place.


        If you are not registered please follow Steps For New Society Registration

  • Step 1   -   Create your account by registering and get your user id & password.
  • Step 2   -   Login with your registered user id & password.
  • Step 3   -   After login, click the society module from the dashboard. Click on new society registration.
  • Step 4   -   On society registration page, fill the society registration details.
  • Step 5   -   After filling the necessary details, upload the scanned copy of the required documents
  • Step 6   -   You need to pay Registration fees through e-Challan (Head no: 1475-00-200-0000 under Department of Commerce & Industries).
  • Step 7   -   When all steps are completed you will be able to see the preview of the filled details.
  • Step 8   -   If all the details filled by you are correct, click on the submit button, else click on the edit button to do the required changes.
  • Step 9   -   After successful submission of  the details, you will recieve a confirmation messsage on your registered mobile number about Society Registration.
  • Step 10   -   Department verifies all datas and documents provided by the user and issues a computer generated certificate to the Society.
